AI integrations

AI integrations for websites, industry and culture

We integrate AI where it takes on a specific task: as a website assistant that answers questions based on your content, as image recognition that finds components using CAD data, and as a tool that creates walkable 3D scenes from plans, models and photos.

What we mean by AI integration

For us, an AI integration is part of an application with a clear purpose: a website, software for maintenance, a museum app or a mixed reality scene. The AI works with data that is already available there, for example website texts, STEP files or construction plans.

We develop these applications ourselves in Solingen, from data import through the user interface to operation. We use some of them in-house: the website assistant EXI (in German) answers questions about our services, projects and team on excit3d.de.

Where we use AI

Six applications that are in use or in development.

AI assistant EXI
Website · in use

Website assistants

EXI answers questions based on the website content, in German or English, by text or voice. For companies we train assistants on their website, products, projects and FAQs.

DiGiTAL TWiN SEARCH
Industry · live

Component recognition by photo

DiGiTAL TWiN SEARCH compares a workshop photo with a company’s STEP or IGES library. The image model DINOv2 generates shape vectors for this; the search takes about 1.2 seconds.

HolonMR: joint walkthrough with mixed reality headsets
Construction · in use

3D scenes from project data

HolonMR uses AI to combine 3D models, 2D plans, DWG files, renderings and photos into a true-to-scale scene that several people walk through together at the same place in mixed reality.

KulturKompass
Museum · in development

AI routes in the museum

KulturKompass puts together routes from a museum’s collection according to interest, time and language. Developed with the Zentrum für verfolgte Künste, funded in the ERDF competition NEXT.IN.NRW.

Anime character Yuuki
Marketing · in use

AI avatars and 3D characters

AI drafts or sketches become rigged, animatable 3D characters for AR, VR, video and interactive applications, for example the anime character Yuuki for onliveline and Takeda.

Kick-off of the Zukunftsbühne project
Stage · research project

AI in stage design

In the Zukunftsbühne project we are developing digital design processes for stage sets with Oper Wuppertal and Neue Effizienz gGmbH, using 3D technologies, AI and new manufacturing methods.

AI in our 3D projects

In classic 3D, AR and VR projects, AI also takes on individual work steps.

Model checking

Detecting and correcting typical errors in 3D models before they go into AR, VR or 3D printing.

Rendering

AI-supported methods to produce visualizations faster and in consistent quality.

Character animation

More natural movements and facial expressions for digital figures in AR and VR applications.

Voice control

Characters that respond to spoken input in AR and VR applications.

How an AI project works with us

  1. Define the use case

Which question should be answered, which task taken over, and how do we measure success?

  2. Check the data

Which content is available, for example texts, CAD data, plans or images, and who may access it?

  3. Test with real data

We build a prototype with your data. For DiGiTAL TWiN SEARCH we import up to 100 of your own STEP files for this.

  4. Integrate

Integration into your website, app or existing processes, including user interface and interfaces.

  5. Operate and maintain

Content and models are updated when your data changes.

Data and operation: Where the data is stored depends on the application. We operate DiGiTAL TWiN SEARCH, for example, on servers in Frankfurt am Main, data is kept within the European Union, and each organization sees only its own inventory. For larger companies, operation in their own data center is possible.

More services: Augmented reality · Virtual and mixed reality · 3D modeling · Software and app development. Project example with 3D characters: UslAR time travel in Uslar (in German).

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI integration?

The integration of AI functions into an existing or new application, such as an assistant in a website, image recognition in maintenance software or AI-supported scene generation in a mixed reality platform.

What data is a website AI assistant based on?

On the content you release: website, product and project descriptions, FAQs. EXI on excit3d.de, for example, knows our services, our team, our reference projects and our company history.

Can the assistant also speak?

Yes. Answers can be read aloud with an AI voice, and questions can be asked via microphone. The assistant answers in the language in which it is asked, for example German or English.

How can component recognition be tested?

With your own data: for DiGiTAL TWiN SEARCH we import up to 100 of your STEP files and provide a free test with a duration of 30 days.

Does EXCIT3D work in funded AI projects?

Yes, for example on KulturKompass and Zukunftsbühne in the ERDF innovation competition NEXT.IN.NRW and as an award-winning team in the network of the Fraunhofer IAO AI studios.
